CIDB GREEN CARD: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW


Many company involved in construction work especially in developing cities like Ipoh, Perak and Kuala Lumpur. These companies strive to keep worksites safe and secure for all workers. This is obligatory not only to meet the government’s requirement but also to avoid from accidents that will jeopardize workers’ life. Every worker at construction site requires training to work safely. Construction Industry Development Board of Malaysia (CIDB) green card is an integrated program that involves the registration and accreditation of Construction Personnel to enhance safety levels at construction work sites. CIDB green card is not only mandatory for workers but it is also mandatory for managers and construction supervisors to manage the work competently and safely. Workers are not allowed to enter construction site without Green Card.


Construction companies in developing cities like Ipoh, Perak and Kuala Lumpur are required to have written safety plan. This could be very beneficial for the companies as they can keep safe if any accident occurs at the construction sites as injured persons can take action against the company. Having a safety plan indicates the company considered potential safety hazards and follows all regulations to keep employees safety.


The function of CIDB Act Amendment 2011 is to regulate the implementation for quality and safe construction works and to attend to any report related to any failure of construction works or completed construction works which affects public safety. It is obligatory for construction companies especially in Ipoh, Perak and Kuala Lumpur to have valid CIDB green card. According to CIDB Amendment to Act 520- Section 32/33, contractor or personnel without valid CIDB green card may be fined up to RM5,000. Apart from that, it is mandatory for all contractors both local and foreign, to register with the CIDB before accepting any construction work in Malaysia. Anyone who undertakes to carry out any construction work without registering as a registered contractor with CIDB will be charged under the Section 25 and may be fined up to RM10,000 but not more RM100,000.
